During the SBC Summit Rio 2024, Digital Gaming News had the exclusive opportunity to speak with Felippe Marchetti, Integrity Partnership Manager at Sportradar, who revealed concerning figures regarding match-fixing in South American football. According to the latest report, 109 cases of match-fixing have been reported in Brazil and 38 in Peru, highlighting a worrisome situation in the region.

Although Brazil has managed to reduce the number of match-fixing cases by 29%, it remains the global leader in this issue. In Peru, the proportion of 38 cases remains high compared to the number of matches played in the country.

Marchetti explained that the majority of match-fixing cases in Brazil occurred in competitions managed by state federations, which are smaller and less visible competitions. This vulnerability is due to lower player salaries and fewer spectators in these leagues.

Regarding Sportradar’s actions, Marchetti mentioned that they are currently working with 14 out of the 27 football federations in Brazil, as well as with the Brazilian Football Confederation, on initiatives to improve integrity in the sport.

The concern for integrity in South American football is evident, and Sportradar urges urgent action by federations and governments to address this issue, which impacts the credibility and sporting spirit.
