Gaming in Spain to Explore the Future of Prediction Betting in Spain’s Regulated Market Through Industry Webinar

As prediction markets continue to gain momentum across global betting markets, Gaming in Spain will host a dedicated webinar on 30 June at 15:30 CET to examine the regulatory and commercial implications of prediction betting within Spain’s licensed gambling framework.

Titled “Licensed Prediction Betting in Spain?”, the webinar comes at a particularly significant moment for the Spanish market following recent actions by the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), which has blocked offshore prediction market operators such as Polymarket and Kalshi from offering their services in Spain.

While these regulatory measures have clarified the position regarding unlicensed operators, an important question remains for the industry: can prediction betting products be legally offered under Spain’s existing gambling licenses?

To address this issue, Gaming in Spain will bring together leading legal and market experts to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and regulatory considerations surrounding this emerging segment.

Willem van Oort, Founder of Gaming in Spain, highlighted the growing relevance of prediction markets worldwide.

“Prediction markets are rapidly increasing in popularity, not just in Spain but across many international jurisdictions. It is therefore natural that licensed operators are exploring ways to provide similar products to their customers. We believe there may be a viable legal pathway for offering these products under existing licenses, and we look forward to sharing our findings with a broader audience during the webinar.”

The webinar will feature contributions from:

  • Xavi Munoz Bellvehí, Managing Partner at ECIJA Barcelona.
  • Camille Gonzálvez, TMT & iGaming Lawyer at ECIJA.
  • Josh Hodgson, COO at H2 Gambling Capital.

Attendees will receive a comprehensive update on the Spanish regulatory landscape, including recent developments surrounding the DGOJ’s mandatory problem gambling detection algorithm, cross-operator deposit limits, market growth projections, and the legal viability of prediction betting under the country’s current licensing framework.

The free-to-attend webinar forms part of Gaming in Spain’s ongoing efforts to facilitate industry education and encourage informed discussion around the key developments shaping Spain’s regulated gambling market.

The organization also confirmed that the 2026 Gaming in Spain Conference will take place on 15 October in Madrid, bringing together regulators, operators, suppliers, and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of Spain’s online gaming sector.
