Football Legends Unite in Lisbon to Raise Millions for Charity

Lisbon will be the stage for one of the most inspiring charity events of the year on September 15, as the Legends Charity Game brings together global football icons to raise funds for communities affected by war, social tensions, and extreme hardship.

Held in conjunction with the SBC Summit Lisbon, this highly anticipated match will see the Portugal Legends take on the World Legends in front of 60,000 fans and millions more watching online and on TV.

With the strong backing of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), the event aims to raise over €1,000,000 for a number of national and international charities dedicated to supporting vulnerable families and communities.

Luis Figo, Ballon d’Or winner in 2000, will captain the Portugal Legends team. “It’s always a pleasure to come back to my country and play football, especially when wearing the national team colours. I hope to see a full stadium in my hometown Lisbon for this amazing Legends Charity Game and raise funds for important charity causes,” said Figo.

Joining him are stars from Portugal’s victorious Euro 2016 squad, including Ricardo Quaresma, Eliseu, and Ricardo Carvalho, alongside Champions League winners such as Fábio Coentrão, Maniche, Deco, José Bosingwa, Hugo Almeida, Vitor Baía, and more. The squad will be coached by Costinha, himself a Champions League winner.

Facing them will be an all-star World Legends team featuring: Peter Schmeichel (Denmark), Cafu (Brazil), Javier Zanetti (Argentina), Diego Lugano (Uruguay), Leonardo Bonucci (Italy), Ronaldinho (Brazil), Youri Djorkaeff (France), Gheorghe Hagi (Romania), Edwin van der Sar (Netherlands), Henrik Larsson (Sweden), Javier Saviola (Argentina), and other iconic names.

The match will be held at either the Estádio da Luz (Benfica Stadium) or José Alvalade Stadium (Sporting Lisbon), with the final venue to be revealed in August alongside the UEFA Champions League schedule.

Funds raised will support charities such as the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), which provides critical humanitarian aid, psychosocial support, shelter, and awareness services across conflict-affected regions in Ukraine.

Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, commented: “The war in Ukraine continues, and unfortunately, millions of people still need support every day. Initiatives like the Legends Charity Game are not just about the funds raised. They represent global compassion and solidarity transformed into real, life-changing help. We are grateful to everyone involved.”

Another beneficiary will be Caritas Portugal, a Lisbon-based organization supporting marginalized communities and providing emergency assistance across the country.

Rasmus Sojmark, Founder & CEO of SBC, stated: “This year, we are elevating our charitable initiatives with a spectacular football match to raise significant funds for truly worthy causes. By tying the match to SBC Summit Lisbon, we’ve united the football and business communities to support those facing unimaginable challenges.”

Tickets are now available via the official website www.legendscharitygame.com, with See Tickets managing ticket sales. Sponsorship and hospitality packages are still available, with confirmed sponsors including iGP, Soft2Bet, Sportingtech, Vegas Legends, Spribe, SmartSoft, and Alea.

All profits from the event will be directed to the Sport Global Charitable Foundation, a restricted fund under the auspices of Prism the Gift Fund (UK registered charity no. 1099682), benefiting multiple charitable organizations including the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and Caritas Portugal.
