Peru: Mincetur Shuts Down Six Illegal Betting and Slot Machine Venues in Chiclayo and Huánuco

The operations resulted in the seizure of 44 slot machines and 41 computer devices used for unauthorized online sports betting. So far in 2026, the ministry has ordered the closure of 33 illegal establishments nationwide.

Crackdown on illegal gambling in two regions

Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has intensified its enforcement efforts against illegal gambling, shutting down six unauthorized establishments in the regions of Lambayeque and Huánuco. The operations were conducted by Mincetur’s General Directorate of Casino Games and Slot Machines, with support from the Peruvian National Police.

In Chiclayo, Lambayeque, authorities intervened at three venues and seized 32 slot machines. In the district of José Luis de Crespo y Castillo, in the Leoncio Prado province of Huánuco, three additional establishments were inspected, resulting in the seizure of 12 slot machines and 41 computer devices used for unauthorized online sports betting.

According to Mincetur, the operations also uncovered slot machines intended for use by minors, a practice prohibited under Peruvian law.

33 illegal establishments closed in 2026

With these latest actions, Mincetur has ordered the closure of 33 illegal establishments so far this year: 19 venues associated with illegal sports betting and 14 unauthorized slot machine halls.

The operations fall under Laws No. 27153, which regulates casino games and slot machines; No. 31557, which establishes the legal framework for remote gaming and sports betting; and No. 29149, which penalizes activities involving slot machines intended for minors.

The ministry warned that those involved in illegal gambling activities may face administrative and financial penalties, as well as prison sentences, depending on the violation and applicable legislation.

How to report illegal gambling activities

Mincetur urged the public to report unauthorized sports betting, casino and slot machine operations through the following channels:

Phone: (01) 513-6113
Email: denuncias_casinos@mincetur.gob.pe

The ministry said it will continue strengthening enforcement efforts to promote compliance with the law and ensure that gambling activities operate under the appropriate authorizations.
