Casino Guru Academy has introduced Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice, a new free course developed in collaboration with BetBlocker International to provide iGaming operators with expert-backed, practical guidance on strengthening self-exclusion processes and enhancing the protection of vulnerable players.
Self-exclusion has become one of the industry’s key responsible gambling tools and is now a regulatory requirement in many licensed markets. However, the varying rules and procedures across countries, jurisdictions, and operators often create inconsistencies that can weaken player protection and make self-exclusion programs more difficult to manage.
To help address these challenges, Casino Guru Academy designed the course as a practical resource for operators looking to assess, improve, or implement effective self-exclusion systems. It also includes a 30-day implementation roadmap to support the adoption of best practices.
The course is based on the Recommended Code of Practice for Online Self-Exclusion, published in 2025 and developed by Dr. Margaret Carran in collaboration with Casino Guru and a team of ten iGaming professionals.
According to Šimon Vincze, Head of Safer and Sustainable Gaming at Casino Guru, the objective is to provide operators with guidance they can apply in real-world scenarios.
“We wanted to give operators guidance they can actually use. We are not trying to replace local regulations or create a rigid global rulebook. Instead, our goal is to share what best practice in self-exclusion looks like and help operators adapt those recommendations to their own markets, teams, and players.”
The course also promotes a comprehensive approach to player protection, emphasizing that self-exclusion is most effective when combined with additional responsible gambling measures, including blocking software, helplines, treatment services, and other support resources.
Part of the program was developed directly with BetBlocker International, a free gambling-blocking tool, to demonstrate how blocking software can strengthen self-exclusion strategies and help prevent vulnerable players from returning to gambling.
Pedro Romero, CEO of BetBlocker International, highlighted the importance of providing operators with additional tools to better support players.
“This course will help operators committed to player protection understand how to provide additional safeguards when a player decides to self-exclude. Self-exclusion should be supported by clear signposting to support services and practical blocking tools, which can play an important role in helping people maintain their decision across operators, whether they want to minimise harm or stop completely. BetBlocker International exists to make those protections free, anonymous and accessible to anyone who needs them.”
With the launch of Advanced Insights: Self-Exclusion Best Practice, Casino Guru Academy continues to expand its portfolio of free educational resources for iGaming professionals. The course is now available through the Casino Guru Academy platform and will also be showcased at iGB L!VE London 2026, one of the leading events for the global iGaming industry.
