Partnership enhances cross-sector collaboration to safeguard Brazil’s regulated market and protect sports betting integrity
LBPay, a licensed payment institution, has joined the Payment Provider Forum of the International Betting Integrity Association in Brazil, reinforcing collaborative efforts between the financial and betting sectors to combat illegal betting and strengthen both financial and sporting integrity in the country.
IBIA’s Payment Provider Forum brings together payment providers and key industry stakeholders to address shared threats, disrupt illicit financial flows and strengthen safeguards across Brazil’s payment ecosystem. As part of this initiative, LBPay will contribute its operational expertise and financial intelligence to support coordinated action against unauthorised betting activities.
The company’s participation comes at a time of heightened regulatory focus on financial controls within Brazil’s betting market, where payment providers are prohibited from processing transactions linked to unlicensed operators. Through the Forum, members work collectively to close gaps, share knowledge and implement practical safeguards that protect consumers and preserve the integrity of both financial systems and sports betting markets.
Bruno Gonçalves, Commercial Director at LBPay, stated that joining the Forum reflects the company’s commitment to the highest standards of compliance and financial integrity. He also emphasised the importance of collaboration across the payments and betting ecosystem to prevent misuse and ensure that Brazil’s regulated market remains secure, transparent and resilient.
Meanwhile, Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, welcomed LBPay and highlighted the critical role of payment providers as a first line of defence in protecting sports betting integrity. He noted that, particularly in markets such as Brazil where financial transactions may support illegal operators, collaboration through the Forum enables more effective detection and disruption of illicit flows, strengthens oversight of the regulated market and supports broader efforts to safeguard sport from betting-related corruption.
As part of its recent initiatives, the Forum has published a Best Practice Guide for payment providers in Brazil, outlining key measures such as continuous licence verification, risk-based transaction monitoring and structured blocking and reporting protocols. These guidelines aim to combat illegal betting and associated financial crime while reinforcing market oversight through coordinated stakeholder action.
Since its establishment in February 2025, IBIA’s Payment Provider Forum has held seven meetings, including two in 2026. The latest meeting took place in April 2026 in São Paulo, during the week of SiGMA South America, where members also participated in a dedicated panel discussion. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of enhanced cooperation between payment providers and integrity stakeholders in tackling illegal betting risks and protecting the integrity of sport in Brazil
