Regulation, Payments and Technology: Guillermo Bejarano Examines the Evolution of iGaming in LatAm

During an interview with Digital Gaming News at LiGA Summit 2026, BetConstruct’s Regional Director discussed the key challenges facing the industry across Latin America, highlighting the evolving player profile, the growing importance of instant payments, and the need to integrate artificial intelligence into concrete business strategies.

As part of LiGA Summit 2026, held on September 17 and 18 in Lima, Digital Gaming News spoke with Guillermo Bejarano, Regional Director at BetConstruct, about the main changes shaping the iGaming industry across Latin America and the technologies that could influence its development in the coming years.

From his perspective, the regional market has entered a stage in which continuously adapting to regulatory and tax changes is becoming increasingly important. Bejarano noted that, following the consolidation of licensing processes in markets such as Peru, the current challenge is maintaining dynamic compliance, allowing operators and suppliers to respond quickly to new regulatory requirements.

“We’ve moved past the stage of looking for a license and providing a guarantee. That stage is already over, at least here in Peru, where it ended two years ago. What happens now? We have Dynamic Compliance,” he explained during the interview.

The executive referred to the evolution of regulatory frameworks across several markets in the region, including Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Chile, and stressed that the ability to adapt will be crucial for companies operating in an environment of constant regulatory change.

A New Requirement: Speed and Technological Capacity

Another key topic discussed during the conversation was the impact of major sporting events on user behavior. For Bejarano, one of the main takeaways is the importance of platform speed and the ability to respond to increasingly immediate user demands.

The growth of formats such as microbetting, simultaneous betting and participation across multiple leagues and events at the same time has raised player expectations.

“If your operation or platform is not fast, you won’t be able to respond to the new demands of these players,” he said.

In this context, technological infrastructure plays a central role. A platform that cannot efficiently process the volume and speed of transactions can directly affect the overall user experience.

Instant Payments and the Evolution of Cashout

The conversation also explored how player expectations have changed when it comes to deposits and withdrawals. Bejarano particularly highlighted the evolution of cashout, linking it to the need for efficient payment systems and KYC processes capable of keeping pace with increasingly fast transactions.

For the executive, the speed of cash-in and cash-out has become an important part of the user experience, rather than simply an operational consideration.

Beyond AI: Gamification and Personalization Strategies

Although artificial intelligence continues to play a central role in discussions around innovation in iGaming, Bejarano pointed out that other technologies and tools are also transforming the player experience.

Among them, he highlighted payment gateways, gamification, UX and bonus strategies, emphasizing that these elements need to work together as part of an integrated approach.

“The focus now is on strategy, making the customer feel identified with the platform and, so to speak, rewarded by the platform or operation,” he explained.

In this context, he mentioned the concept of “smart bonus” as an approach that goes beyond traditional promotions to develop incentives linked to each user’s behavior and experience.

Artificial Intelligence with Clear Business Objectives

When discussing the trends that could shape the future of iGaming in Latin America, Bejarano once again highlighted artificial intelligence, while emphasizing the importance of using it with clear and specific objectives.

In his view, simply having access to AI tools does not guarantee results. Technology needs to be connected to a business plan that allows companies to make effective use of it within their operations.

“If we don’t have a business plan tied to artificial intelligence, even if we have the best tools and services in the world, technically it won’t work,” he stated.

At the same time, he identified gamification as one of the concepts that will continue to gain relevance, particularly as operators seek to create more personalized experiences and new forms of interaction that can strengthen their relationship with users.

An Industry Moving Toward More Immediate Experiences

The conversation with Guillermo Bejarano highlighted a Latin American market that continues to evolve toward greater operational speed, regulatory adaptability and personalization of the user experience.

From dynamic compliance and instant payments to gamification and a more strategic implementation of artificial intelligence, these different elements point toward a common challenge: responding to players whose expectations are changing as well.
