February 17, 2025 | Digital Report

Play, play, play… it’s an appealing word in many aspects of life. Today, we focus on the concept of responsible gaming, as the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has designated February 17 as “Responsible Gaming Day” worldwide. We aim to highlight its impact on the iGaming industry in Latin America. But first, let’s define this activity more clearly.

Gaming is a structured activity with established rules that can be carried out for entertainment, learning, competition, or betting. It may involve skills, strategy, chance, or a combination of these elements.

Since ancient times, gaming has represented competition, status, and development. Today, in the digital era, its impact is even greater, particularly in the iGaming and online betting industry.

Gaming in the Context of iGaming

In the iGaming and betting industry, gaming refers to participation in digital casino platforms, sports betting, and other online entertainment formats, all regulated by specific laws in each country.

Responsible gaming in Latin America is a key issue in the regulation of iGaming and sports betting. Each country has different approaches and regulations to ensure that gaming remains safe, fair, and minimizes addiction risks.

Throughout this report, we will explore the challenges and perspectives of responsible gaming in the region, analyzing the role of operators, regulators, and users in building a safer and more sustainable ecosystem.

Mexico 🇲🇽

Expert Opinions: How is the Industry Addressing This Challenge?

Novusbet: Innovation and Technology in Service of Responsible Gaming

Novusbet is a comprehensive provider of sports betting services, gaming platforms, and customized software solutions.

Simone Suppa, the company’s General Manager, shared details about the specific functionalities their software offers to help operators implement responsible gaming practices:

“At Novusbet, we see responsible gaming not just as a regulatory requirement but as a key pillar in building a sustainable and trustworthy sector. Our platform is designed to provide operators with effective tools that protect players without taking away the excitement of gaming.”

One of the fundamental aspects is player protection. Operators can set deposit, loss, and session time limits based on current regulations and their own responsible gaming policies. Additionally, Novusbet’s real-time monitoring technology uses behavioral analysis and artificial intelligence to detect risk patterns, allowing interventions before an issue escalates.

Another priority is giving players greater control. With automated self-exclusion tools and cool-off periods, users can set limits or pause their activity without hassle. This is complemented by integrations with identity verification and financial risk analysis systems, allowing operators to assess financial risk before permitting high-value bets.

Effective communication also plays a key role. Novusbet’s platform enables personalized and automated messages based on player behavior, ensuring that those showing warning signs receive timely reminders promoting responsible gaming. Every interaction is recorded and fully auditable, making regulatory compliance straightforward.

Simone Suppa also highlighted Novusbet’s commitment to developing innovations that help the industry identify and mitigate risks more effectively:

“At Novusbet, we are going beyond current standards, developing solutions that allow operators to detect and reduce risks more intelligently. One of our most important advancements is the use of artificial intelligence. Instead of reacting when a problem has already emerged, our risk assessment tools act as an early warning system, identifying potential warning signs at the right moment.

We are also redefining personalization. We believe responsible gaming tools should not be seen as restrictions but as support mechanisms to encourage safer gaming habits. That’s why we are developing systems that dynamically adjust betting recommendations, the visibility of certain games, and even session limits based on each player’s risk profile.”

By applying strong protective measures as a B2B provider, we demonstrate the industry’s commitment to player safety and social responsibility.”

Marina also explained the specific measures Altenar applies to promote responsible gaming:

Regarding the importance of responsible gaming, Gonzalo Pérez, CEO of Apuesta Total, shared his vision:

“Responsible gaming is key to the industry’s sustainability. Beyond being an ethical commitment, it is a way to ensure a positive experience for our customers. If betting stops being entertainment, we all lose—the customers, society, and the industry itself.

As a business, it is not in our interest for someone to lose a large amount of money and never return. We seek customers who bet within their means over time and enjoy the game in moderation. These are the most profitable in the long run. All our marketing efforts are focused on attracting this type of player.

Implementing responsible gaming practices not only protects our users by preventing irresponsible gambling behaviors but also strengthens trust in the sector and ensures its long-term growth.”

Additionally, Gonzalo Pérez highlighted Apuesta Total’s initiatives in this area:

“To promote responsible gaming, we have implemented tools such as deposit limits, self-exclusion, and game-time reminders, giving users greater control over their experience. We also invest in education through tutorials on social media and our web platform.

Another priority is responsible communication. In our advertising content, we avoid selling the idea that betting is a way to become a millionaire. Our message is always clear: gaming is entertainment, not a promise of wealth”.

Additionally, Oscar highlighted the development of technologies that meet international standards for responsible gaming and player protection:

“Specifically, our Competitive Gaming product (electronic leagues of e-Football and e-Basketball) is the only one on the market with Gold certification from the ESIC (Esports Integrity Commission). This guarantees full transparency in the operation of this product, ensuring that the experience for players and operators is optimal and fully aligned with responsible gaming principles.”

This establishes a solid foundation for the sector’s growth and stability, ensuring its long-term sustainability.”

APADELA also highlights the importance of concrete measures implemented by operators:

“APADELA operators have introduced various strategies to promote responsible gaming, including configurable betting and deposit limits, temporary or permanent self-exclusion options, and informative messaging to reinforce the importance of a safe and controlled gaming experience.”

The iGaming industry is constantly evolving, adopting new technologies that transform user experiences. One of the fastest-growing segments is virtual reality, an innovation that has impacted various industries and is now taking root in the gaming sector. To learn more about this trend and its impact on iGaming, we spoke with Land Vegas, a company specializing in the development of metaverse casinos.

With a forward-thinking vision, Land Vegas is committed to the evolution of online entertainment.

David Fica, CEO of Land Vegas, shared his thoughts on the importance of maintaining responsible gaming practices:

This creates a virtuous cycle where everyone benefits—especially individuals and their families, who are most affected when gaming problems arise.”

The iGaming industry in Peru and Latin America continues to expand with technological advancements and new experiences for players.
