Digital Gaming Play, the podcast of Digital Gaming News, presents a new episode of its season “iGaming in Transformation: Technology, Integrity, and New Audiences”. In this episode, Geraldine García, Media & Relations Manager at Digital Gaming News, sits down with David Fica, CEO of Land Vegas Group, to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and timeline of the Metaverse applied to iGaming.

In the interview, Fica defines the Metaverse as a virtual parallel reality where users can interact through avatars and extended reality devices. He anticipates that its mass adoption will be gradual: “we will see important steps by 2030, with acceleration towards 2040,” he explained. According to Fica, technological evolution—particularly the integration of artificial intelligence, predictive models, and virtual reality devices—will enable immersive experiences that go far beyond the traditional 2D screen.

The Land Vegas Group CEO highlighted specific opportunities for operators and providers:

  • New entertainment experiences that merge gaming and community.
  • Advanced gamification and products more closely aligned with video games.
  • Hybrid economic models, which currently start with social money and could, in the medium term, incorporate Web3 mechanisms and cryptocurrencies.

Fica also emphasized the technical and regulatory challenges: the lack of specific legal frameworks for immersive environments, adoption gaps across different age groups, and the high cost and complexity of developing spatial reality compared to 2D solutions. He advised companies to adopt a long-term vision, invest in infrastructure and young talent, and prepare today for a process he described as “a marathon, not a 100-meter sprint,” where consistency will make the difference.

On adoption in the region, Fica noted that Latin America and Peru have favorable conditions: strong talent, access to technologies, and a young user base eager to experiment. However, he stressed that more progress is needed in regulation, education, and the development of products that truly connect with local audiences.

This episode provides a strategic outlook for operators, providers, and regulators seeking to understand how the convergence of iGaming, the Metaverse, and Web3 will reshape the digital entertainment landscape over the next 5 to 10 years.
